Frederick County
Forest Conservancy District Board
June 14, 2010 Meeting Minutes
Those present: Lynne Marquess, Jim Arnold, Tyson Rose, Ginny Brace, Mike Kay
NRCC: Lynne, Jim, and Mike arrived early to interview Amber Hill, Nick Triantis, and Joey Williams. All of the candidates were impressive and we would like to send all of them to camp. (Nick’s application was incomplete so we asked him to provide the remaining material by weeks end if he wished to attend camp.) Following the interviews we discussed funding and after much discussion Jim proposed that the Board would cover the tuition of the two remaining unfunded students in the event that no other board wishes to do so. The motion was seconded, and passed by a vote of 3 – 1.
Call to order: The meeting was called to order and May’s minutes were approved as written.
Treasurer’s Report: Tom indicated by email that we have a balance of $9027.02 in the Treasury which includes $2.39 of interest. Mike stated that he received a letter from Frederick County that indicated that we would receive $900 as a budget appropriation. The check should be mailed to Mike sometime after July 1, 2010.
Timber Harvest reviews: Four plans were submitted for the meeting. We decided to inspect the properties on Thursday, June 17, 2010. The meeting site is under consideration.
Neighborhood Green: Lynne, and Jim attended most programs and Ginny helped instruct the field trip at Waterford. We all thought the program went well. Mike explained that we had an evaluation meeting with the Neighborhood Green committee where we reviewed the evaluations (most were good), critiqued the program, and assigned follow up meetings with the participating landowners. The next step is to meet with the landowners to refine their plans and discuss implementation. So far there has been no word whether or not we received the NWFW grant yet. Lynne mentioned that the Forestry Board Foundation may be willing to handle disbursement of these funds if necessary. Tyson asked Mike to prepare a short synopsis of the program for the Web Site and Mike agreed to do so.
Nature Notes: Ginny said that things are fine.
Web Site: Tyson said that it was up to date and said that he looks forward to Mike’s article.
Other Initiatives: Mike relayed the Listening Session program for forestry and touched base on the new tree planting program.
