We combined a short meeting with the 3 part Forest Management Training Program that was in its second night. The third and final installment of the program will be on Monday, March 18, 2013 from 6:30 pm until 9:00 pm.
Call to order: Keith got things rolling by asking if we are going to have a meeting or not.
Treasurer’s Report: Tom delivered a Treasurer’s Report and stated that much of the funds that have recently come into the Treasury are earmarked for the upcoming Neighborhood Green Program.
Logging site exams: Mike has not received any logging site plans before the meeting.
Neighborhood Green: Heather presented a short speech to those in attendance about the upcoming Neighborhood Green training and the program in general.
NRCC: Mike mentioned this program to the attendees and asked that interested parties call him or fill out an application on the web site.
Forest Management Course: Tonight was the second of three installments. Mike presented a talk on general forest management techniques and the benefits of having a Forest Stewardship Plan for your property. Craig Highfield overviewed two mapping programs and introduced the audience to the Forestry for the Bay Web site. Wildlife Biologist Donnie Rohrback gave a talk about common wildlife management practices that a landowner could implement on their property. Mike finished up with a program on where to go for help regarding management activities on your property. Heather took some photographs and Mike can write up a brief summary for Tyson to post on our website. One of the attendees asked if they could review the power points so Mike suggested that we forward these programs to Tyson to place on the webpage. Mike will provide refreshments for the final program.
Forestry Merit Badge program: Mike heard back from Melissa Ubanic who stated their interest in participating in a merit badge program. Mike mentioned to Melissa that the Board would like to run this program on one of three dates in September 14, 21, or 28. Melissa said that she would speak to her counterpart in the Appalachian scouting group and return with a firm date for this program.
Nature Notes: We have been sending Ginny a number of articles and I would imagine that we have built up a 1 – 2 month backlog now.
Web Site: Tyson reports that the website is up to date and it contains coverage of the Managing your Forest in Good and Bad Times series that is presently under way. The upcoming MD Woodland Stewards program is spotlighted on the site and Vince has submitted a photo and profile for the Members page.
Other Business: The Town of Woodsboro is hosting a tree planting day at the Community Park on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 8:00 – 12:00 we have a 5.0 acre area to plant so we would welcome any and all volunteers. This site will be muddy so you are encouraged to bring waterproof boots.
