Treasurer’s Report: Tom Reported that he received a check for $400 from MUCFC for Friends of Baker Park and he wrote Ginny a $400 check to deliver to the Friends group.
Logging Site Exams: Mike received one plan; and, due to tree planting season Mike will send out an email to members next week to see if they would be available to inspect the site.
Forest Management Course: Everybody thought it went well. We had a good crowd of 30 people, and there was no drop off in attendance even with the bad weather we had during the third session.
Woodsboro Tree Planting: We planted 1,300 trees and 900 herbaceous plants at Woodsboro Park on April 6, 2013. Tom and Claude were there to assist with the planting and Claude took photographs and put together an article for the Forestry Board Web Site. Claude said he was very surprised how well organized everything was and how fast the site was planted. Mike said the chicken was “killer”.
Larry Sharpe Memorial Tree: Mike mentioned that he received an email from Lynne Marquess regarding the Memorial Holly Tree we planted at HCC in Larry’s honor last year. Lynne and Blanche Sharpe stopped by to look at this tree and it appeared that deer had stripped most of the leaves from the side branches. Mike said he would stop by and look at the tree and it might need some deer fencing placed around the perimeter.
Neighborhood Green: Heather mentions that there is good interest for the May 18, 2013 Neighborhood Green workshop; and she asks that we help her get the word out about the workshop. Fourteen acres of planting has been completed as a result of the 2012 Neighborhood Green season. Karen Gardner plans on writing an article on some of the past participants in this program to drum up interest.
Arbor Day poster contest: We looked at a number of posters submitted by 5th grade students at The Banner School and choose a nice design submitted by Anisa Asad. Mike mailed the poster to Lindsay Major and he will return the remaining entries to the school.
Boy Scout Program: This program is scheduled for Saturday, September 14, 2013. Tyson agreed to provide Ginny with the Forestry Merit Badge workbook and she is taking the lead to provide a side by side detail of the Badge requirements and what we will/can provide to the Scout participants. Jim is working at a new job that is requiring a minimum of 12 hours per day of his time and, as such, Claude
Nature Notes: Ginny mentioned that Sue Guynn has retired from the paper and our contact at the paper will be Karen Gardner. Steve submitted some articles that have been running in the Washington Post which we could review for some ideas about future columns. Ginny also thought we could do an article on tree frogs for Nature Notes.
Web Site: Tyson mentioned that the site is up to date with an article on the Woodsboro tree planting. Tyson also mentioned that he received a nice compliment from John Bennett about the web site.
Other Business:

Tree Farm: Claude mentioned that a number of Tree Farm committee members and the Tree Farmer and Tree Farm Inspector of the Year traveled to Annapolis to be recognized by State Legislature and to distribute seedlings to Legislative Staff members.
